Employee Spotlight: Patty Shipinski

How did you find D3, and why did you decide to work for D3?

I found the job listing on the Downers Grove Chamber of Commerce website and then did some research on D3. I liked that the office was a team and though everyone had certain roles, in the end everyone worked together to help clients.

What does a typical work day look like for you?

Customer service is the number one priority. First thing is do a quick check of the downloads to make sure everything updated overnight, then it’s answering emails, the phones and following up on paperwork.

What would people never guess you do in your role?

Though I’m the office manager, I do hold my paraplanner designation and assist with the financial planning process.

What is the one thing D3 clients probably don’t know about you?

I’m kind of a homebody and love to do gardening and projects around the house. There is always a weed to pull, or a room that could use a fresh coat of paint.

What book is on your nightstand?

“Wit and Wisdom” of Abraham Lincoln

Before working at D3, what was the most unusual and interesting job you’ve ever had?

Prior to D3, I had taken several years off after having our son. Being a mom has definitely been the most interesting, and important job that I’ve had.

Tell us a little bit about your family.

Rob and I have known each other since junior high and have been married for 21 years. We have a 12 year old son, Zach, and two dogs. Rob works for a motorcycle parts and accessories company, so our house is always stocked with helmets and apparel. Zach is really into music these days and plays the guitar and bass. He has been playing in a band the last few years, so it’s pretty cool to see kids rocking out.

If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Desert. Anything will chocolate will do!

What is the first thing you would do if you won the lottery?

I would love to buy a ranch in Montana and be able to do whatever I want, when I want. D3, of course, would manage our money so that we’d never have to worry about running out of cash!

Do you have a favorite quote?

P. M. A. – positive mental attitude. My junior high algebra teacher used to say it every day to remind us that having a positive attitude gets you a long way in life.

If your house was burning down, what’s the one non-living thing you would save?

My jewelry box. I have some pieces from family members that have passed away and would hate to ever lose those.
