Employee Spotlight: Adam Glassberg, Part-Owner of D3
You are now a part-owner of D3. What have you enjoyed most about working at D3 over the years?
The most enjoyable part of my job is learning from our clients. Many of our clients have had a tremendous amount of experience both personally and professionally. Part of my job is to learn how our clients got to where they are in life, what’s important to them, and how their goals have changed through the different stages of life. Not only does this help us develop a unique road map for financial success, it also helps me gain new insights on different areas of my life, such as being a successful business owner and great parent.
What types of jobs did you have prior to joining D3?
Financial planning at D3 was my first career, but was far from my first job. I started a bagel & coffee delivery business when I was 10 and have always held a job since I was 15. I’ve worked in the food, construction, and retail industries. My favorite was delivering pizzas for Domino’s, which I did in college.
Do you prefer reading books on paper or an e-reader?
I do a lot of reading on my IPad (news, email, social media, etc.). When it comes to books, I prefer books on paper.
What are you enjoying most about being a dad to your new baby girl Addison?
It’s only been four months and I’m sure the best is yet to come, but my favorite part so far is watching her learn something new every day. I’m amazed every day to see her grow both physically and intellectually. She already knows how to get what she wants from mom & dad ;-).
What is your favorite weekend family activity?
Lately it’s been enjoying some alone time with my wife, Amanda, and daughter, Addison. I enjoy anything that involves the company of our families and close friends.
Where is your favorite place you’ve traveled to?
I love ski vacations. I was raised skiing at an early age, and there’s nothing like coming back from vacation in better shape than when you left. Of the places I’ve been, I’d put Whistler, British Columbia, Breckenridge, Colorado & Big Sky, Montana at the top of the list.
Do you have a favorite quote?
“Whether you think that you can, or that you can’t, you are usually right.” – Henry Ford
What is your favorite thing to do in Chicago?
I’m a bit of a Chicago sports nut (for better or worse). I love catching a game at Wrigley Field, Soldier Field, or the United Center. My first date with my wife Amanda was at a Hawks game. Looking back, this was probably not the most romantic place for a first date, but showed that just how much Amanda was willing to tolerate.
What is your favorite form of exercise?
I’ve always enjoyed running as it is a good way to burn steam and clear my mind.
Are you working on mastering any new skills or perfecting any hidden talents outside of work?
I love to cook and experiment in the kitchen. Whenever you deviate from a recipe there can be hits and misses, but there’s something about making your own version of a dish that I love. I received a smoker for Christmas a couple years ago and have almost perfected my smoked ribs.
